Since FDA approval of BOTOX® in 2002, eye area wrinkles are becoming about as rare as crooked teeth. Millions of non surgical procedures are now performed by healthcare professionals annually to treat lines and wrinkles around the eyes with BOTOX® or advanced dermal fillers or both. Most procedures take less than 30 minutes and individuals are back to most normal routines immediately. These procedures are non surgical.
Crow’s feet are lines that extend from the outer corners of the eyes. They are also known as periorbital wrinkles. Sometimes these lines fan out and can arc downward over the cheek bone and even down onto the lower cheeks. In most individuals,
crow’s feet are caused by smiling and squinting, in combination with some degree of loss of facial volume or collagen.
Most individuals develop crows feet wrinkles to one extent or another at some time. The lines are usually superficial (fine), but may also deepen in some individuals. They can range from a few lines to multiple fanning lines.
The primary method for treating crows feet is with applications of BOTOX®. BOTOX® not only diminishes or removes wrinkles, but over time, can also erase etching of the lines completely. In more pronounced or longer lines, the medical practitioner may also use an advanced dermal filler such as Juvederm® or Restylane®. The medical professional typically places the dermal fillers under the skin along the creases or grooves of the crow’s feet.
Other Eye Area Lines and Wrinkles
In addition to crow’s feet, lines and wrinkles will form on the lower and upper eyelids. In some individuals, the skin can develop a crêping look (like crêpe paper). As
with treatment of crows feet, healthcare professionals will typically use BOTOX or dermal fillers or a combination of both in treatment of eye area wrinkles. Treatment can also open up the eyes, giving an individual a more rested, energetic look, as well.
It is advisable to select a medical practitioner who has performed at least hundreds of dermal filler procedures because techniques are often refined over time.A medical practitioner who is more experienced in these procedures will be far more likely to achieve better, more pleasing and enduring results, which means you are getting more for your money.
